Frederick Sanger (1977) developed a method for DNA sequencing based on the chain termination, now known as the Sanger sequencing. Recently, massive parallel sequencing, better known as next-generation sequencing (NGS), is replacing the Sanger sequencing for detecting mutations in many diseases. But till date, Sanger sequencing is still considered as the gold standard and also the first-line approach for the molecular diagnosis of many diseases.
